The national presidency of the Hungarian Automobile Club (MAK) expects Mayor Gergely Karácsony to provide meaningful co-operation on the issue of transport in Budapest, including bicycle lanes, the organization announced in a statement sent to MTI on Thursday.
MAK agrees with the reduction of traffic in the capital for the sake of a greener, cleaner, more livable environment, but sees this as feasible not only by violating the interests of motorists, but also by creating a balanced system of conditions and complex joint thinking.
He considers it a prerequisite for a livable city, among other things
- the immediate construction of the missing section of the M0 ring road,
- non-investment in downtown traffic generation,
- reviewing the transmittance of lamp systems,
- and the expansion of P + R car parks.
The organization sees it key that obligations be added to the expanding rights of cyclists, “because at present, through the benefits of unidentifiability, a significant proportion of them travel on the roads without knowledge of the rules, but at least without the intention to follow the law. It would be useful to keep records and systematize liability insurance in order to recover the damage they cause . '
It would address congestion reduction with benefits, including support for home office work, cascading work and e-government. “Measures would be expected from both government and local government organizations in these areas,” he emphasizes. A significant number of bicycle lanes created in an imaginative way without real social consultation must be reviewed and eliminated. Most of them are harmful, increase the risk of accidents, emit pollutants and create social tensions that can become unbearable when bad weather sets in. The livable city model cannot be achieved by supporting cycling to the detriment of car traffic alone - the Hungarian Automobile Club drew attention to one of the main problems and added that emphasis should be placed on positive incentives, such as allowing a driver who occasionally stops his car to travel at a discount. on BKK flights.
