The newly unveiled Toyota Land Cruiser 300 updates the terrain capabilities of its iconic predecessor with modern technology, but an important element was omitted by Toyota, even though it would have made the sensation really complete: no hybrid powertrain, at least for now.
However, according to the latest Japanese news, it will be, not just the Toyota Land Cruiser, but the Lexus LX based on it. The two basic engines known to Toyota (a 3.5-liter V6 twin-turbocharged petrol engine with 415 horsepower and a 3.3 V6 turbodiesel with 309 horsepower) are said to be marketed as LX 600 and LX 500d, respectively.
The big sensation, however, is that in principle there will also be an LX 750h, i.e. a hybrid version. Japanese journalists have learned that they can install the same powertrain in the car that works in the Lexus LS 500h. Built around a 3.5 V6 petrol engine, the dual electric engine system in the luxury sedan is 354 horsepower, but in the giant SUV it is likely to pull performance up: if you are not mistaken about 480 horsepower and 870 Nm of total torque, the LX750h is not just a it can also be one of the most exciting members of the global offroad market.
The new-generation Lexus LX is expected to be unveiled in September, and the car will hit the domestic market as early as December, with technical data expected in the second half of August. From this, we conclude that Europe could receive the first LXs as early as the first quarter of 2022 - unless, of course, the Japanese are misinformed.
