Life-threatening automotive parts or other vehicle-related products, typically car diagnostic tools and software, are increasingly coming to the country.
Leopold Róbert, Chief Financial Officer of the National Tax and Customs Office (NAV), told the World Economy that while the staff of NAV had to take action in this case only in 31 cases at Liszt Ferenc International Airport in 2008, by the end of September this year 374 times, such consignments containing such goods were found on the checks.
Last year, the customs authorities prevented the import of fake automotive products by 111, and in 2017 by 264 million forints. This amount applies only to shipments arriving from the third country into the European Union, but in many cases, the customs are detected by counterfeiters within the country.
Earlier, they tried to introduce false products into the country, but in recent years they have to be primarily directed at the NAV Airport Directorate. Incidentally, in other EU countries, Internet commerce and postal items have become the main routes of counterfeiting.
In Hungary, HUF 290 billion a year, or 12.2 percent of sales revenue, is lost directly due to counterfeit goods, with the loss of some ten thousand domestic jobs.
