In California, a government decree will ban the sale of gasoline, diesel and hybrid cars from 2035. They would take serious action against climate change with local emission-free transport.
California has taken a huge step toward making the air in the West Coast state cleaner, as gasoline-powered, diesel, and hybrid vehicles will be phased out by 2035. This was announced at a press conference by Gavin Newsom, the Democratic governor of California, and a decree was signed on Wednesday.
In his speech, he stressed that California cars should not be further damaged by fires and should be encouraged to spend as many days as possible smoke-free in the state. At the same time, they are contributing to the fight against climate change with this decision.
In 15 years, therefore, only cars that are free of local emissions will be allowed to be marketed in California, eliminating not only gasoline and diesel cars, but even hybrids. The regulation does not prohibit the use of cars currently on the market, but they do sell and buy them.
In California, the car provides mobility for many, so many are opposed to the decision. Analysts note the California ordinance could be sued by the federal government in Washington.
