Corporate car fleets are responsible for half of all road emissions in Europe.
Road transport is responsible for almost a quarter of Europe's greenhouse gas emissions, in which car fleets also play a significant role, according to a joint study by EY and Eurelectric analyzing 600 fleets from 16 industries.
The 63 million fleet cars currently in circulation account for only 20 percent of all vehicles on the continent, but they run on the roads at least twice as much as those in private use. As a result, 40 percent of the distances traveled across Europe are made this way, so half of all road emissions are emitted by company fleet cars.
According to the study, companies will therefore also have a key responsibility to enable Europe to reduce its CO2 emissions by 55% by 2030 compared to 1990 levels - meaning electric cars must also gain ground in fleets.
