Harm reduction and achieving a smoke-free future are no longer the sole goal of a single sector.
Given the trend of recent years, it is now clear that more and more people are willing to pay large sums to drive their car in part or in full for environmental reasons, in order to reduce harm.
That is why car manufacturers today are making serious efforts to meet this demand on an ongoing basis. However, harm reduction and achieving a smoke-free future are no longer the sole goal of this sector today!
Reducing emissions is of paramount importance in the automotive industry. Catalysts, advanced fuel injection, improved efficiency engines, a powertrain optimized for real use, and we could even list the extremely important solutions that have been put in place to reduce emissions from fossil fuel vehicles. However, these, too, were only at the forefront and affected the feeling of novelty until the first purely electric drive appeared.
Harm reduction by 2020 has become a societal need that can now mobilize all responsible market players, regardless of sector. An approach that is not at all difficult to draw a parallel between the “emissions” of cars and smoking and the so-called smoke-free technologies developed to reduce it.
According to international surveys, more than one billion people smoke worldwide, more than 2 million in Hungary - but the lives of many more people are affected by cigarette smoke. When a cigarette is lit, more than seven thousand chemicals are produced, much of which enters our bodies with smoke. Nicotine is well known to be highly addictive and to have side effects such as headaches or dizziness, but today leading scientific organizations are also of the opinion that it is not nicotine but burns and smoke that are the main causes. , which are responsible for the development of smoking-related diseases. Namely, 93 of the thousands of chemicals detected in smoke have been determined by the FDA, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, to be harmful or potentially harmful to health.
The best way to protect our health is not to get used to smoking. This is worth considering not only for ourselves but also for those around us. By not igniting it, we save us all from getting a lot of harmful substances into our bodies. And in the case of smoking, the most effective harm reduction is to quit. Quitting clearly and proportionately reduces the likelihood of disease and so we can protect not only ourselves but also our loved ones, friends and colleagues from harm. However, if, for some reason, we do not put down a cigarette, by choosing a smoke-free technology, we may put ourselves and our immediate environment at lower risk than smoking. There are many different smoke-free technologies with completely different effects. There are also huge differences within technologies in terms of the level of scientific evidence available on their effects.
