According to Markus Söder, the next decade and a half should be a transitional period to end the era of fossil energy, in which the state also supports traditional propulsion technology.
Following the example of California, the placing on the market of conventional-powered cars in Bavaria would also be stopped from 2035.
Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder's party, speaking at a weekend online congress of the Christian Social Union (CSU), highlighted the need to set a date from which a new car with an internal combustion engine using a fossil energy source cannot be placed on the market, writes MTI.
The 2035 chosen in California “seems like a very good date,” the politician referred to a recent decree by U.S. Governor Gavin Newsom that a car that can only run without greenhouse gas emissions can be placed on the market in 15 years as part of the fight against climate change.
According to Markus Söder, the next decade and a half should be a transitional period to end the era of fossil energy, in which the state also supports traditional propulsion technology.
Following the introduction of a premium to support the purchase of electric cars, a system should also be developed to stimulate demand for cars equipped with the most environmentally friendly internal combustion engines. A “recycling premium” or a replacement voucher should be introduced so that anyone who buys a car with a state-of-the-art internal combustion engine can get an even more modern car in a few years, ” said the Bavarian prime minister.
He stressed that climate change is one of the greatest challenges in human history and that everything must be done to curb the process. This obligation must also be enshrined in the Bavarian constitution, Markus Söder said, adding that climate change is also hitting Bavaria hard and will be one of the biggest concerns even after the coronary virus epidemic is long overdue.
