Volkswagen is suspending eighth generation Golf deliveries due to a software problem. They may also launch a callback program soon.
Volkswagen VIII shipments were immediately suspended with effect from Volkswagen, writes the German Automobilwoche. The car magazine knows that eCall, the electronic emergency call feature for cars, is not working due to software problems.
Information from Der Spiegel has since been confirmed by Volkswagen. The control module of the online connection unit transmitted the data unreliably, and as the emergency call function is now a basic requirement in the EU, the car cannot actually be marketed in this form.
The significant said the manufacturer identified the problem during an internal quality control process. Vehicles that have already been handed over - or part of them - may need to be called back for repair. The mill is said to affect at least 30,000 cars.
Volkswagen is expected to be ready by mid-June to improve the software; this means in principle that no Golf will be shipped to customers until then. However, production is not interrupted: the finished cars are set aside, and as soon as the software update is available, it is applied and the car can go to the customer.
