Damage claims are being filed against Volkswagen for loss of value for diesel cars in the province of Baden-Württemberg, according to a report published by Monday at Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ).
To the knowledge of the paper, the Provincial Government regards the manipulation of the emission values of diesel vehicles as "deliberate and bad faith". The Provincial Government has already proposed an out-of-court settlement to Volkswag, which the Group has not adopted within the legal deadline.
Edith Sitzmann, Minister of Finance, reported on Tuesday that he would be submitting a proposal for action to the Cabinet on Tuesday to seek compensation from the provincial government, for example, for diesel vehicles purchased or leased by the police.
The Provincial Government regards its "budget obligation" as providing timely income - quotes FAZ's spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Finance. At the request of the FAZ, a spokesman for Volkswagen said "we have no knowledge of a lawsuit against us".
A similar move is being considered by the North Rhine-Westphalia region against diesel vehicle manufacturers. In an interview with the Rheinische Post, Provincial Minister of Justice Peter Biesenbach indicated that he would investigate the possibility of bringing an action for damages against thousands of diesel vehicle manufacturers in the province.
