According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), 8.2 million new cars were put into operation in the first half of 2019 in the EU member states, 3.1% less than in the first six months of last year. With the exception of Germany, where the number of registrations increased by 0.5 percent, all major EU markets recorded a decline.
In June, after the 0.1 percent drop in May, the number of vehicles put on the market dropped by 7.8 percent to 1.446 million. The calendar effect is also a part of this, as it was only 19 sales days in June this year against 21 days last year.
Industry representatives point out that the emissions measurement procedure introduced in September last year has dropped sales and hence the number of cars put on the market. Many large manufacturers could not deliver more models because they did not meet the new requirements.
