In Norway, more than half of the new cars sold last year were fully electric, which is a world record.
54.3 percent of new vehicles sold last year were battery-powered electric cars (BEVs) after 42.4 percent a year earlier. In 2018, the market share of fully electric cars was 31.2 percent, in 2013 5.5 percent, and a decade ago it was only 1 percent in Norway.
Last year, Volkswagen sold the most electric cars in Norway, pushing Tesla back to second place.
In the Scandinavian country, sales of new fossil fuel-powered cars are scheduled to cease by 2025. In Norway, electric cars enjoy a number of tax and fee reductions, such as exemptions from tolls and parking fees.
