Speed record was born in Utah state famous Bonneville salt plain with a cigar-shaped Turbinator II vehicle, which is now the fastest wheeled vehicle.
The main difference is that, as there are more faster vehicles, but not the wheels are driven, they are rocket-like, with the crushing pressure, where the wheels are only the connection with the ground, but passive in the drive.
This four-wheeled structure was driven by a turbine engine of a Chinook helicopter, where the turbine engine directly drives the wheels without any relocation, which is roughly like an airplane trying to land at full speed on the ground.
The Team Vesco team was able to reach 717.13 km / h, which is already a record, but this is considered a warm-up as the goal is to reach 500 miles per hour or 804 km / h.
The structure uses, among other things, aluminum wheels that are as light as possible, so the loose torque is more easily transmitted to the ground without slipping. To do so, of course, an additional smart electronic traction system had to be developed as well as an injection that controls the torque of the engine.
We would add to the record that the driver was a 76-year-old racing driver, a certain Dave Spangler. Amazing.
