Elon Musk’s company, The Boring Company, has been commissioned to develop transportation infrastructure for a Southern California airport. Rancho Cucamonga in San Bernardino would be connected underground to Ontario International Airport, located near Los Angeles.
In the 4.5-kilometer tunnel, which will stretch 10 meters deep underground, Tesla vehicles would race at 200 km / h. For this task, the California company will soon develop 12-person electric vans that can carry passengers.
The $ 60 million project is expected to transport 1,200 people to and from the airport daily. Musk already talked in 2016 that there would be a minibus-like vehicle in their model range, but not much has been said about it since.
California’s principals estimate that Tesla’s solution is much cheaper than a traditional rail-based solution, which is also a much more time-consuming development.
The Boring Company has not been idle so far, two similar tunnels have recently been completed in downtown Las Vegas, where you can travel underground around the Las Vegas Convention Center next year, but Musk also wants to make casinos accessible through the underground network.
