Sony is creating a new division to develop electric vehicles.
The announcement was made shortly before the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), the largest international exhibition of consumer electronics, robotics and mobile technology, opened in Las Vegas on Wednesday.
Named Sony Mobility, the new division is expected to launch this spring.
The Japanese company also reported showing a prototype of its second electric vehicle, the seven-seater VISION-S 02 SUV, at the show. Last year, the company's first concept car, the VISION-S 01 electric sedan, was also unveiled at CES.
It is not yet clear whether series production of the cars will begin. At the same time, the president and CEO of the electronics company said they were looking into the possibility of commercializing their electric vehicles, the Trend FM portal quoted MTI as saying.
