The all-new four-seater BMW 2 Coupé features a torsional rigidity that is up to 12 percent higher than its predecessor. The classic three-box body is 105 mm longer (4537 mm) and 64 mm wider (1838 mm), yet 28 mm lower (1390 mm). The wheelbase is 2741 mm, 51 mm longer than in the previous BMW 2 Coupé, and the track width has also been increased: 54 mm (1575 mm) at the front and 31 mm (1587 mm) at the rear. The gauge of the top model, the M240i xDrive Coupé, which will debut in 2022, will be even wider.
The grille doesn’t reach the ground, many will probably be happy about it; the vertical gratings of the grille are in fact motor-rotatable, lockable slats that allow air to the air only when it is needed for cooling, otherwise they close and thus improve the air resistance.
The LED luminaires were pulled out on both sides of the nose, their only large light source to evoke the simple round headlights of the classic 02 series; the retro effect is dampened by BMW with a pointed LED corner. From the side view, the car shows a classic coupe image, which is closed by a duck wing formed on the edge of the boot lid. However, the tail is the longest at the bumper and shortens upwards, making it look unusual.
There are no surprises in the cabin. In keeping with the sporty character of the model, a more dynamic design was chosen for the 2 Coupé, both from the seat and the steering wheel. As an option, integrated headrests and heated seats are available on request, but there are no air-conditioned seats, especially massage chairs. The rear seat is split in the middle, strictly for two people, in return, passengers can control the temperature separately, as a three-zone air conditioner is standard. A new style element is the tetrahedral pattern printed in the door trim, as well as the background pattern of the door handle, which can even receive mood lighting.
