For a simple person of this kind, this whole data protection trust, the obscure thing called GDPR, has meanwhile meant that I have to leave a lot of extra clicks on the websites when the stupid popup comes up about some privacy and cookie conditions that I obviously read and I probably wouldn't. No problem, I click when a couple of bored EU politicians need it, though it is quite frustrating to read the news that while I hear the unnecessary system messages, giants continue to trade my data peacefully, even with my personal messages.
There is another area where data protection, as if it were completely separated from reality, would not serve the interests of peaceful citizens, but on the contrary: the magical world of car deck cameras. A few days ago, we received a press release from a law firm summarizing how these cameras should be used properly. According to the writings of the Bán-Karika Law Firm, and according to the National Office for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (NAIH), there are some key points in the use of on-board cameras:
- The images should not be of high quality (ie: recording a few frames per second with low resolution) and cannot record continuous motion;
- recordings can basically be stored for 5 business days so that no one else can access it;
- Apart from creating and storing videos, any other action (such as disclosure) can already be performed in accordance with the relevant data protection legislation. In the case of disclosure, it should be emphasized that in such cases, the facial images and license plates (as personal data) on the record should be made unrecognizable in advance.
In addition, the car should probably be stickered to be seen from afar: in this car there is a video camera. Well, that's all, I'm a criminal: my camera records a continuous video in HD and I don't format the SD card after every use. So in vain to overwrite the unexpected recordings on the camera, there are sure to be a couple of five-day but five-month shots on the card due to the event (high acceleration value, sudden braking, pothole) recorded in a separate folder or recorded manually by me. But in fact, I've already uploaded a video about the transport situation that is interesting to the net. Finished, over, can come with the clamp.
