According to the results of a survey commissioned by Budget Hungary, the majority of Hungarians prefer trips organized individually, but in nearly a quarter of cases, depending on the situation, they are also open to organized trips. Most of the country's own car is cut off by their own car, and most of the time they prefer to travel abroad by air, while car rental is the largest option for off-country holidays.
Approximately 80 percent of the respondents used their own or rented car to go on holiday, for a longer trip. The overwhelming majority of respondents consider their own vehicle to be a long way to go: the highest proportion of people aged 36-45 and those in the west of the country think so.
Interestingly, there is a significantly higher proportion of women with ever-car renters and those with higher education. There are more people living in a two-person household, and the majority are between 46-55.
63 percent of those surveyed would rent a car if their own vehicle failed, and 26 percent thought it was inappropriate for their own vehicle. A quarter of respondents would also borrow to travel with a larger luggage or cabin. Of those who have ever rented a car, 39 percent would choose a vehicle with a larger cabin and luggage compartment.
It is very rare for someone to leave alone with a rental vehicle, but it is not common for more than five to travel together. Most often, two (39%) or four (28%) start off, with three-person companies slightly lower (23%).
The most popular domestic destinations are not limited to one area, but cover the whole country. Mostly, the parts of the country associated with waters and wine regions are popular when it comes to choosing a destination. The majority of those who want to leave - more than a third - prefer to choose Lake Balaton, while those in the east of the country would prefer to visit the capital.
Among the county seats, Debrecen (21%), Eger (18%), Szeged (17%), Sopron (15%) and Pécs (14%) are the most popular destinations. In terms of European destinations, Vienna is extremely popular (35%), followed by Croatia (21%), Prague (17%) and Italy (13%).
Not only do the Hungarians rent a car for the duration of the holiday: almost half of the respondents would try a car type before buying it. Those who have already rented a car are very proud of the fact that servicing is not their concern and that they can start in perfect condition - even for a long journey - with the selected vehicle.
