The demand for used cars is not expected to decrease in the Hungarian car market in 2023 either, Das WeltAutó explains in a statement sent to MTI on Wednesday.
According to Péter Tóth, the sales director of the company with a national dealer network, the new car segment continues to struggle with longer delivery times, and this turns customer interest towards used vehicles. However, the procurement of supplies is still limited - he pointed out - so the price of used cars is not expected to drop in the near future.
According to the sales director's summary, last year started strongly for the used market, and then, as a result of the war that broke out in February, interest declined in March and April. However, the war had an effect on the delivery time of new cars, which again shifted attention towards used cars, so the supply began to shrink and prices began to rise.
Supply and demand equalized by the end of the year. According to Péter Tóth, a significant decrease in the willingness to finance played a role in the reduction of momentum: while at the beginning of the year every second contract was linked to financing, by the end of the year this ratio had dropped to 30 percent.
Citing data from Datahouse, he highlighted that another record year was set in 2022 with 830,000 transcriptions, although the increase was only 1.2 percent compared to the previous year. Of the total sales, used car dealers closed with 213,000 sold cars, a 25 percent share.
Das WeltAuto sold 6,278 cars in its national network in 2022, compared to 7,442 a year earlier, he explained.
Almost 50 percent of the domestic conversions were dominated by lower-mid-range and small-sized cars. The most sought-after brands were once again Opel, Volkswagen and Suzuki.
According to the experience of Das WeltAuto, the demand for diesel cars in Hungary is still not decreasing, and due to the skyrocketing fuel costs, more and more people are looking for alternative drive models.
Das WeltAuto is the used car division of Porsche Hungaria, which distributes the brands of the Volkswagen concern, and has a national sales network of 30 dealerships.
