Mercedes wants to complement its on-board computer with an application that will easily avoid locations where more than average crimes are committed. The new system is being tested in Seattle for the first time, which city's public criminal map is compared to the navigation map and the latest parking information.
The driver can select a destination or parking space and get to know quickly how many offenses have been committed in the past weeks. The on-board computer indicates green areas with completely green, medium-safe locations with yellow, and red places to avoid. According to the developers, it is extremely important that the system does not use annual or quarterly statistics, but uses the most up-to-date data.
The new service, including current parking fees, will debut in next-generation Mercedes, and will be used in countries and cities where crime maps are public. The crime point map of the Hungarian police is available here .
