Neither electronic systems nor awareness is the key to safety: a British survey found that we drive carefully when we have our dog with us.
Of the 100 cars, 54 are more prudent if the family’s dog is also traveling in the car, a British study found, asking two thousand people about their driving habits. The attention of young people in particular is improving: 69 per cent of respondents aged 18-24 said so, while only 42 per cent of those over 55 will be more aware if a dog is panting in the car.
Research conducted at the request of SEAT also revealed that it is not necessarily the concern about the dog that causes motorists to drive defensively: one in three respondents (35%) find the presence of a four-legged companion to be particularly reassuring and stress-relieving.
