Based on the experience of recent years, it is possible to determine well in which periods those driving towards Lake Balaton and Lake Velence use the M7 motorway. Most depart from Budapest between 2 pm and 8 pm on Fridays and between 8 am and 1 pm on Saturdays.
On Sundays, on the side leading to the capital, the lanes are saturated from 12 noon to evening, with most departing around 5 pm-6pm. Many times the traffic is heavy even at 10pm.
Tips of Magyar Közút Nonprofit Zrt .:
• If possible, avoid peak periods. Most depart from the capital on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning and return on Sunday evening, Monday morning. On Monday, moreover, after the truck stop, the load concept is also significant. During these periods, even a small stutter is sufficient to cause significant congestion.
• If there is significant congestion on the motorway, for example due to an accident, it is advisable to choose a detour. The M6 motorway can also be used, from where you can return to the M7 motorway at several junctions, for example via the main roads 62 and 64. Those traveling to the northern shore of Lake Balaton can also use the main road 8 from Székesfehérvár.
• In connection with the M7 motorway, the connection to the main road 710 was completed last autumn, providing faster and safer access to the north coast.
• The M7 motorway from Székesfehérvár to Budapest, on the side leading to the capital, has three lanes, but the outer lane is hardly used by motorists, although this could reduce major congestion. There is an obligation to keep to the right on a road suitable for parallel traffic, and densely placed signs also draw attention to this. If this is adhered to by motorists, the capacity of the highway will be much more even, so the size of congestion can also be substantially reduced.
