The German climate law draft may endanger the existence of unlimited motorway sections. It will also be another victim of fighting air pollution.
Germany, which seeks to comply with EU emission regulations, may soon be facing the most obvious, yet most controversial, restriction: according to the traffic section of the Climate Change Preparatory Commission, unrestricted riding on German roads should be banned.
According to Reuters, the emissions from the German transport industry have remained unchanged since 1990, which will soon be able to secure security in Brussels. You can expect serious fines in Berlin if they do not.
For the time being, only suggestions have been made, but they are calling for some radical changes: in addition to the general introduction of speed limits, they would abolish the tax subsidy for diesel, radically increase fuel taxes from 2023, and impose quotas on manufacturers for the sale of hybrid and electric cars.
The proposals are outline for the time being, and will be presented to the German government in March to be included in the climate change law that will come into force in 2019.
