Thanks to the modern world, news can be accessed immediately, so the European Union's proposal to change the validity of driver's licenses for people over 70 caused a great deal of alarm.
According to the draft, it would mean that people turning 70 would only be able to keep their driver's license if they passed various tests.
It is thought-provoking how many driving licenses would go to waste in this way - either because they would not take these tests, or because they would not succeed - but it is far from certain that they would be much younger than 70 years old, even a few years after obtaining their driving license they could keep their driver's license.
Referring to the results of the Central Statistical Office, however, it appears that in ¾ of the year 2021, the 46-64 age group (2917 cases) and the 18-30 year-olds (2980) performed almost equally in causing accidents. For those aged 31-45, this number was 2,846.
As unbelievable as it may seem, the age group between 65-98 was responsible for only 1,471 accidents in the same period. Of course, this could also be due to the fact that retired drivers no longer go to work every day and do not use their cars as often.
