The 37-meter-long, 70-ton vehicle is transported by truck from Valencia to Szentes, the tram-train arrives in Hungary in three parts.
Following assembly, Stadler is expected to begin line testing in February. According to the manufacturer, the second tram train will also arrive in February. The first three vehicles are expected to be available in late September 2021. According to the plans, by the end of November 2021, eight tram-train vehicles will receive an official permit and can travel between Hódmezővásárhely and Szeged.
According to the announcement, the 216-seat tram-train vehicles will be able to travel on the tram lines of Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely at a maximum speed of 50 kilometers per hour according to the traffic regulations, and on the open line between the two cities.
The comfortable, largely low-floor and barrier-free CityLink vehicles will have a state-of-the-art passenger information system, air conditioning, a bright, spacious cabin and a state-of-the-art on-board security camera system.
The tram-train runs in Szeged on tram line 1 from Szeged railway station to Szeged-Rókus railway station, then continues to Hódmezővásárhely on railway line 135. On the tram-train line, a nearly four-kilometer single-track tramway was built in Hódmezővásárhely with five switches and six stops, as well as the associated overhead line network. As part of the construction, a P + R car park for 94 cars and 900 bicycle storages were created in Hódmezővásárhely.
It has also been reported that from the second quarter of 2021, the railway company will install ticket vending machines at major stops on the tram-train route, from which railway tickets and season tickets as well as tram-train products designed for travelers between Szeged and Hódmezővásárhely will be available.
