The construction of the six-storey parking garage at the Liszt Ferenc International Airport has begun, while the first solemn sawmill was held on Friday at the same time as the landscaping works.
The new building will be ready in the second quarter of 2020 and will provide parking for 2,500 vehicles, bringing the total parking capacity around the airport to about 7,000 seats. Car rental companies will be on the ground floor of the building, and there will be stations for charging electric cars in the parking garage.
Jost Lammers, CEO of Budapest Airport at the ceremony, said the number of parking cars has doubled since 2013 and nearly one million cars are parked at the airport every year, so it's important to increase capacity.
So far, long-term parking lots have been developed, approximately 4,500 seats have been transferred, now the short-term parking capacity is being increased by building a parking garage with a cost of € 40 million, about $ 13 billion.
Kam Jandu, Commercial Manager of Budapest Airport, stressed that the car park building will be connected to the departure and arrival levels by modern passenger bridges, with private parking on the bus side of the hotel. On the first floor of the parking garage, XXL parking lots will be built, two levels will only be short-lived and the other two will only serve as long-term parking lots.
