The Slovenian government has fixed the price of fuel again, the decree applies to 95-octane gasoline and diesel, the Slovenian Ministry of Economy announced on Tuesday.
The ministry set the retail price of eurosuper 95 at 1,560 euros, its wholesale price at 1,540 euros, the retail price of eurodiesel at 1,668 euros, and its wholesale price at 1,648 euros.
The decree is valid for three months and will take effect from Wednesday.
According to the Ministry of Economy, the government decided to maximize the price of the two best-selling fuels in order to curb the rise due to expected disruptions in the petroleum product market and large price fluctuations.
On May 1, the outgoing government did not extend the date of application of the fuel price fixed two and a half months earlier, which it explained at the time by saying that the markets had stabilized. Since then, the price of gasoline and diesel has risen three times in Slovenia. On Tuesday, gasoline cost 1.717 euros, diesel 1.862 euros. The latter price on the highways reached 1.92 euros.
Last Friday, the Slovenian Chamber of Craftsmen and Entrepreneurs (OZS) urged the state to intervene again. As they said, the "abnormal" increase in fuel prices causes price increases in all segments of the economy. This leads to a decrease in purchasing power and a drop in demand, which is followed by layoffs, they said.
