18 percent of Hungarian motorists would like to buy an electric or hybrid vehicle within a year or two, last year this rate was 16 percent - Generali Biztosító's January representative survey shows, the results of which were announced to MTI on Thursday.
According to the announcement, those who are not among those intending to buy an electric or hybrid vehicle mainly justify this with financial reasons (84 percent). In addition to prices, comfort aspects matter most: the short range (57 percent) and limited charging options (50 percent) also hold them back.
The respondents named environmental awareness (71 percent) and fuel prices (70 percent) as the main reasons for switching to an environmentally friendly car, in last year's survey fuel costs represented only 53 percent. This year, it appeared as a new aspect (22 percent) that environmentally conscious forms of transport are considered fashionable.
Based on the research, 62 percent of Hungarian adults have their own car, but only 1 percent is environmentally friendly.
The survey also covered changes in car usage habits. Urban residents over 50 are mostly behind the wheel (36 percent), young people aged 18-29 (19 percent) and Budapest residents (16 percent) less and less, they wrote.
61 percent of those who took part in the research got into a car much less often in the past period than before. The reason for this was the increase in gasoline prices in 64 percent, the drastic increase in spare parts prices and repair costs in 17 percent, but the proportion of working from home also reached 10 percent of the reasons.
