German automakers received ten percent less domestic orders in March this year than last year, and their foreign orders fell by eight percent.
However, according to the report of VDA (Verband der Automobilindustrie), the development of orders for the first quarter shows a slightly better picture: domestic orders grew by seven per cent in the first three months of this year, but foreign orders decreased by eight per cent.
In the first quarter of this year, the share of diesel vehicles increased slightly compared to last year for newly-released vehicles: to 33.1 percent from 32.3 percent. In March this year, the share of diesel vehicles was 32.4 percent, while in March last year it was slightly lower, at 31.4 percent.
In the first quarter of this year, 880,000 new passenger cars were sold in Germany, according to the VDA report. However, 345,000 passenger cars put on the market in March are one percent lower than last March.
