Have you ever been told that during a longer trip you could not agree on what kind of music would you like to hear from the loudspeakers of your car or would you like to arrange private calls to your handsfree? With us several times, we are very pleased to welcome Hyundai's latest aspirations for a sound system that can split the car's passenger compartment up to four so that it does not even seem to sit in there - of course without headphones.
South Koreans are working on the Separated Sound Zone (SSZ), which will be able to divide the car's interior into four parts and play all music in all four zones without interfering with one another. All this is achieved by using some advanced speakers that use the same principle as the sound from the other zone, such as the noise filter systems of modern headphones. All this is done by responding only to the sound waves coming from other loudspeakers, such as communicating easily with each other.
It is not only because of listening to music that the SSZ may be of interest to you, for example, you can make phone calls privately - or at least the other end of the line will not be heard by others - but navigation instructions can only reach the driver if you want. Hyundai's developers say that such and such comfort-enhancing technologies will have an increasing role to play with the emergence of self-propelled cars as drivers will increasingly demand these.
