The latter complaint could come from the new generation of Toyota Century customers, as the silk-refined V12 petrol engine of the predecessor model was replaced by the running-out Lexus LS V8 hybrid powertrain.
Japanese papers know the previous generation Lexus LS 600h drivetrain is back - or at least something bigger than the current V6.
Customers of luxury cars don’t like downsizing. The four-cylinder engine isn’t six-cylinder, the V6 obviously doesn’t match the V8, and how could we get to eight cylinders if we used to farm twelve earlier.
The latter complaint could come from the new generation of Toyota Century customers, as the silk-refined V12 petrol engine of the predecessor model was replaced by the running-out Lexus LS V8 hybrid powertrain.
The new generation Lexus LS has also gone by the way: this particular V8 has been replaced by a V6 by the manufacturer. It lags behind the previous eight-cylinder engine in terms of performance and torque, but is still more agile and economical thanks to the 3 x 3 + 1-speed transmission unit. It's just not V8.
If all is true, there will soon be no reason to complain to the LS fan base: according to Japanese press reports, the LS 600h will return, meaning there will again be a V8 hybrid on the Lexus palette.
However, it is questionable whether the old, well-proven engine will return (possibly in combination with the transmission modification system) or whether Toyota will develop a new eight-cylinder hybrid. The latter would be supported by the fact that the new turbocharged V8 is being made for the planned LC F anyway; if the company could use a retuned version of it in a hybrid powertrain, it could electrify even its largest models (Lexus LX, Toyota Land Cruiser).
