Can't decide between Golf Syncro and Golf Convertible? You don't even have to if you can find a Biagini Passo.
Since March, the Volkswagen T-Roc Cabriolet, a 4.2-meter, canopied crossover with a canopy roof, has been available worldwide. However, this was not the first off-road convertible to build on Volkswagen foundations - and now we are not thinking of the Kübelwagen, but of the oddity called the Biagini Passo.
This was designed and built by the Italian ACM (who later marketed VW diesel-powered ARO10s in Western Europe) between 1990 and 1993. They grabbed the Golf I Convertible and integrated it with the Golf II Country powertrain and all-wheel drive. For this, they designed their own subframes, and the body was equipped with custom extensions and bumpers. Kangaroo gratings as well as lamps borrowed from elsewhere completed the unique look of the car.
Only 65 pieces of the car were made, so it could even be a valuable collectible piece, but because of the quality of the backyard construction, it is more exciting than a desirable exotic. It is a pity, because with a deftly built off-road convertible one can worship two hedonistic deities at the same time.
