As a result of thorough professional preparatory work and a consultation process, the Ministry of Innovation and Technology has modernized the training of motorcyclists in order to reduce the number of accidents.
The number of motorcycles registered in Hungary more than doubled compared to 2001, to close to 186 thousand by the end of 2019. According to statistics, the risk of accidental death of motorcyclists is significantly higher than that of motorists, with 50-60 motorcyclists killing in 1,200-1500 accidents per year in the recent period.
The amendments were prepared by the experts of KAV Transport Suitability and Examination Center Nonprofit Ltd. using the experience of the vocational instructors, involving other domestic transport experts and analyzing foreign examples. Based on their comprehensive package of proposals, they have adapted the training curricula and examination requirements to technical progress.
With the entry into force of the changes for all two-wheeled categories, the more complex driving elements will be more prominently included in the examination tasks. A significant proportion of accidents can be attributed to the failure of such complex maneuvers, such as bypassing or overturning the vehicle when cornering. The size and layout of the test tracks are changing. They also teach in more detail the selection and correct use of clothing and protective equipment for the safety of motorcyclists.
In addition, the KTI Institute of Transport Sciences Nonprofit Ltd. and the Examination Center compiled a series of educational videos for educational purposes. The few-minute episodes demonstrate the correct execution of the tasks in the motor curriculum and exam requirements. The videos were made with three types of narrations for students and VET providers in addition to students. The first video has already been published.
