Next year, those who are found to be driving without a valid compulsory motor vehicle liability insurance contract (kgfb) will have to pay an average of 15.2 percent more next year. The fee table for the lack of coverage for next year can already be studied on the mabisz.hu website - the Association of Hungarian Insurers (Mabisz) said in a statement on Wednesday.
More than two weeks are available to those whose KGFB contract expires on January 1 and who want to change insurers. They must send the termination of their current contract to their current company by midnight on December 1 at the latest, and then conclude their new contract with the new insurance company as soon as possible, and by December 31 at the latest. If you are satisfied with the offer you received from your company, there is nothing to do.
It was announced: after 2010, the contract anniversary date is linked to the date of purchase of the car. Of the more than 5.8 million kgfb contracts, 925,000 are still considered affected, for whom 11 of the 12 market participants announced new tariffs from the beginning of next year. As in previous years, many discounts can still be used, taking all of them into account the most favorable insurance offer can be calculated on the price navigator found on the association's website (mabisz.hu). Based on the experience of the past years, roughly every tenth person involved has changed insurers these days.
Attention has been drawn: those who do not have mandatory liability insurance coverage should study the fee table for lack of coverage valid for 2023. Compared to this year, the partially punitive fees increased by an average of 15.2 percent, so in the case of passenger vehicles, instead of this year's HUF 600-1290, the operator must pay HUF 650-1400 next year for the days on which the vehicle did not have a valid compulsory liability insurance contract. In the case of buses, the fee for lack of coverage is HUF 980-6670 depending on the number of seats on the bus, currently HUF 900-5570. And in the case of trucks, it can reach HUF 5,380 per day, after the current HUF 4,560.
At the time of concluding the contract, the insurers are obliged to make sure that the policyholder has fulfilled his obligation to pay premiums in previous insurance periods. The legislation does not provide for the possibility of waiving the fee for lack of coverage. The fact that the vehicle is not in use for a longer period of time does not exempt it from the insurance obligation according to the law. Those who do not use their vehicle for a longer period of time and do not want to pay insurance premiums for this period can take advantage of the option of -temporary - removal from circulation. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, about 80,000 of the Hungarian vehicles taken into account without mopeds do not have a valid KGFB contract. They not only risk paying the lack of coverage fee, but if they are responsible for an accident, they have to compensate the damage caused, even millions of forints.
They explained that the compensation of innocent victims of such accidents is handled from a separate Compensation Account managed by MABISZ, and the association recovers the amount in question from the tortfeasor within the framework of the so-called recourse procedure. As a result, about HUF 1 billion is transferred annually to the Compensation Account, which Mabisz uses in its entirety to compensate for damages caused by uninsured and unknown vehicles.
Last year, the organization's customer service received 605 inquiries, and until the end of October this year, 381 inquiries regarding damage to vehicles without insurance.
