In the past year and a half, passengers exchanged about 32,000 premium tickets for MÁV-Start flights, MÁV announced to MTI on Friday.
You were reminded that in the fall of 2021, MÁV put into service on its special InterCity lines those cars with the highest service category available on board, the premium class, which is of a higher standard than 1st class and provides more services.
The first and premium (1+) class IC+ cars can be found daily on long-distance trains going to Nyíregyháza, Szeged and Pécs, MÁV announced.
The premium section can be used with a 1st class ticket, an additional ticket, and a HUF 1,000 seat exchange. The premium service is only slightly more expensive than the standard 1st class - MÁV pointed out.
The new service was first introduced on Tokaj InterCity, and most of the tickets were bought by passengers on these flights, which is also due to the fact that the flight connects several county seats with the capital and with each other. The daily 18 Tokaj IC round trips run every two hours on the route Budapest-Keleti-Miskolc-Nyíregyháza-Debrecen-Szolnok-Cegléd-Budapest-West.
Last fall, the premium service with on-board passenger service was launched to Szeged in 32 trains a day. Since then, more than 6,000 people have traveled in the 1+ class. The Napfény InterCity flight runs every hour between Budapest-Nyugati-Cegléd-Kecskemét-Szeged.
With the schedule change in December, you can already get to Pécs in the premium class, the Mecsek InterCity trains depart every two hours from Budapest-Keleti railway station to the county center of Baranya. In the past month and a half, almost 3,500 people bought such tickets for the 16 daily trains.
In the 2022 summer season, the new trains also ran to Lake Balaton. MÁV-START sold almost 3,000 tickets for premium cabins at Kék Hullám and Levendula InterCity, and it was noted that it is expected that the first and premium class IC+ cars will return to Lake Balaton this summer as well.
The premium section can be used with a 1st class ticket, an additional ticket, and a HUF 1,000 seat exchange. The premium service is thus only slightly more expensive compared to standard 1st class - MÁV pointed out.
In 2022, almost 97 million paying passengers traveled by train on MÁV-START flights.
