The proportion of hybrid customers among Ford Mondeo customers is growing year by year. In the first seven months of 2020, 25 percent more Mondeo Hybrids found owners across Europe than in 2019 as a whole: gasoline-electric variants currently account for more than a third of Mondeo sales. In some markets, the ratio is even better: in Italy, for example, three-quarters (!) Of Mondeos sold between January and July 2020 were sold with a self-filling hybrid powertrain.
No wonder, then, that Ford considered it unnecessary to keep the model range on three feet, so from now on the car will only be available with a full hybrid powertrain and diesel engine. The water separator has an annual mileage of 20,000 kilometers, according to the manufacturer: whoever uses their car less than this, choose the self-charging hybrid.
The Mondeo Hybrid’s 2.0-liter gasoline engine operates on the Atkinson cycle and is powered by a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion unit. The regenerative braking system is able to recover 90% of the braking energy as electrical energy. The vehicle is capable of starting in electric mode, thus ensuring fine operation, especially in urban use. Power transmission is provided by an in-house power distribution system.
From 2021, the full hybrid powertrain will also appear in S-MAX and Galaxy bus limousines. In addition to these two, fifteen new, partially or fully electric models will be added to its range by the end of the Ford 2021. By the end of 2022, the company expects these types to account for more than 50 percent of their European sales.
