A new generation of Toyota Harrier will be available in Japan from the summer. The model uses the RAV4 technology available from us, and later we can even see it again as a Lexus RX.
We are all familiar with the Toyota Harrier, although it has never been and will not be sold in Europe. But for a generation and a half it was the same car as the Lexus RX - but since Lexus was also available in Japan (15 years ago), the Harrier has been on its own. It hasn’t grown to such an awful rate, and while we wouldn’t necessarily call it beautiful, it’s as much of a non-sharing character as the Lexus RX crossover.
All of this is important because the Harrier will be renewed this year and you will get the floorboard that the new Lexus RX, which will arrive in two years, will. The current models are not based on the same platform (Harrier for the previous RAV4, RX for the previous ES), but in the future both will get TNGA-K flooring, meaning that the RAV4 and Lexus ES will remain the same, only right now they are also platform brothers.
From now on, everything would be speculation - because Lexus still only has bigger engines than a Toyota, and you need to know more about the space available - but the point is probably the same. The TNGA-K platform means better torsional strength, i.e. sportier handling, more comfortable suspension and generally quieter operation. For the time being, the engine gets the same two that the RAV4 / ES offers: a 2.0-liter petrol and a 2.5-hybrid.
