Peugeot has built a new rally car for its motorsport customers. Again, the base was the 208.
Peugeot Sport has introduced a brand new rally car in line with the 2020 regulations and name changes. The development has been underway since the summer of 2018, in parallel with the next-generation 208 that underpins it.
Of course, there is not much in common with the two types apart from the CMP floorboard and the 1.2 liter block. The race car features adjustable Öhlins shock absorbers; the brakes are 290mm at the rear, with 330mm on the front for asphalt and 290mm on gravel. The car is heavier by 2020, changing from 1030 to 1080 kg. The former 1.6-liter engine (185 bhp, 190 Nm) will be replaced by a sharpened version of the 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo. With a larger turbocharger and Magnetti Marelli engine control, they achieved 208 horsepower and 290 Nm of torque. Power is transmitted to the front axle by a five-speed, sequential Sadev race gear, where it is distributed between the two wheels by a mechanical, partially self-closing differential. The wheels are 15 or 17 inches depending on the ground.
The Peugeot 208 Rally 4 has undergone a baptism of fire already before the season, with FIA homologation awaiting sharp deployment sometime in the first quarter of 2020. The car is already available for pre-order with a net purchase price of € 66,000, approx. HUF 22 million.
