A production version of the Toyota LQ may be available soon. The special-looking model can play the same role on the battery-powered electric palette as the Prius among the hybrids.
Toyota’s first purely electric car, a converted C-HR recreational vehicle, is now available in China. However, Japanese journalists say a model designed specifically for electric propulsion and offered exclusively with it, a series version of the LQ study presented last year, may come soon.
Spyder7.com is not even predicting the date of launch, but it is believed that the basic design will not change. However, we will have to give up most of the extravagant details, from the sill-side side windows to the striped headlights to the clad rear wheels. Nor is it likely that Yui, an on-board assistant based on artificial intelligence, will be realized according to the original idea, while there are technological and legal barriers to the introduction of Level 4 autonomous mobility functions. However, there are also details that can be included in the series-produced LQ - such as the head-up display combined with augmented reality, or the mirror segment headlight already used in the Lexus RX.
The Toyota LQ is sure to get the Toyota C-HR EV / Lexus UX 300e, a pair of powertrains already available in China. Their 54.3 kWh lithium-ion battery pack allows for a range of around 400 kilometers, and the electric motor has 204 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque.
