An intelligent intersection has been created in the real traffic by the car manufacturer, who informs the driver when he approaches a vehicle or pedestrian from an unseen sidewalk.
Intersections are, of course, a major source of danger in transport (in the US, all caramboles are responsible for 40 per cent of all fatal accidents), and although the roundabout would be faster and safer, they cannot be formed at the corner of every block. Car manufacturers and urban developers are therefore working together on solutions that anticipate the risk for road users.
Now, Honda has introduced its solution for communication between vehicles and infrastructure (V2X), not in the laboratory, but in the real world, sharply.
In the experimental intersection of Marysville (USA), Ohio, cameras were placed above the traffic lights, monitoring the traffic of pedestrians and vehicles up to 100 meters away. The resulting 360 degree image is analyzed by the software developed by Honda, defining each vehicle type and its movement, and then transmitting the information received to the vehicles by wireless communication, the on-board computer of which interprets the incoming signals and by means of sound and / or light signaling. draw the driver's attention to the danger.
As part of the experiment, Honda has installed 200 vehicles with technology to receive signals.
