More Daimler models than previously reported may be suspected of being susceptible to software malfunctioning diesel engine emissions as reported by Bild am Sonntag.
According to the sheet report, the engine control software function in question regulates the temperature of the coolant so that the nitrogen oxide emission of the engine on the bench does not exceed the prescribed limits, but does not do so under traffic conditions.
According to the information on the page, the software function in question is not only incorporated into Mercedes GLK but also into Mercedes C, E and S classes.
The feature built into the Mercedes GLK engine control software and the ongoing regulatory investigation became known in April this year. The German Federal Ministry of Transport stated that the investigation had been in progress since the autumn of 2018 and that no details would be disclosed until its completion.
According to Daimler's announcement, the software function itself was announced by Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt (KBA) and cooperates with the Authority in the ongoing investigation. Otherwise Daimler does not consider the function to be illegal. Hearing is still ongoing, so any statement about any recall action or the number of models involved is 'mere speculation'.
