Interested in how many cyclists ride in the new bike lane on the boulevard? And meanwhile, how many cars are miserable in the remaining one lane? We counted.
The success of the boulevard bike lane was recently announced by the BKK, but the 2,500-3,000 cyclists per day in it seemed unrealistic compared to the number of bikes we measured at previous locations. We have no reason to doubt the results of the BKK measurements, they must have been well counted, but to have an idea of how many cars are going on these sections in the meantime, we went out on the tour and looked at them.
The method is simple, as the devil doesn’t feel like decking by the road for 24 hours while staring at lanes, pulling strigulas, and unfortunately we don’t have any other smart traffic counters, so we exposed a camera on the tour that took a photo every 2 seconds. Because of the wide viewing angle, this time is plenty enough to have what goes on it on at least one image. True, we didn't want to watch the infinitely long timelapse video made of it - consisting of a good 42 thousand pictures - but somehow we just had to count how much of it went on the tour.
We waited curiously to see what the end of the count would be. The final result was obtained after minimal rounding, because the night part certainly slipped into error in the calculation, from both sides. (The full video will not be placed here due to the possibly legible license plates and recognizable bikers in the pictures, but we will be happy to show it to those who are willing to recalculate.)
