Toyota is recalling a total of 2.43 million hybrid cars worldwide for inspection due to possible engine failure.
According to Toyota's announcement, the Prius and Auris cars manufactured between October 2008 and November 2014 are subject to recall.
The measure concerns 1.25 million cars in Japan, 830,000 in North America, 290,000 cars in Europe, but also for cars sold in China, Africa and the Pacific.
According to Toyota's announcement, for some cars, the engine may not switch to "safety mode" if the hybrid engine system is faulty, which can lead to energy loss and car stops. If it happens at high speed, it can cause an accident.
The manufacturer has not yet been notified of this.
