Nissan is set to lay off 15 percent of its workers, more than 20,000 employees worldwide.
According to the company's internal sources, the Japanese news agency Kyodo, the automotive group is planning to reduce its headcount, mainly in Europe and some developing regions, due to declining sales amid the coronavirus epidemic.
The now planned redundancies will be the largest since 1999, when Carlos Ghosn took over Nissan's leadership in a joint venture with French Renault to avoid imminent bankruptcy.
