Propulsion batteries for hybrid and electric Honda vehicles in Europe are used to store energy or disassemble its components.
The French SNAM (Société Nouvelle d’Affinage des Métaux), which has advanced from a metallurgical company to a battery expert, will partner with Honda in a project to recycle batteries extracted from some or all of the car manufacturer’s electric models.
By 2022, Honda will offer a partially or fully electric version of all its base models: after the CR-V Hybrid introduced last year, the Honda e will be here this year, and the Jazz e: HEV Hybrid is coming soon. As long as they age, there are old, NiMH cordless models: the Insight, CR-Z or Civic Hybrid. So Honda is not in the least late with this project, which they have been working on with SNAM since 2013.
Affected batteries are collected by Honda from 22 countries and then decided whether they are reusable or can only extract their valuable raw materials. In the latter case, batteries are again made using them, but if there is still life in the batteries, they can be given a place and a role in home or industrial energy storage units.
