According to the BKIK's announcement sent to MTI on Tuesday, the chamber shares the opinion of the Magyar Autoklub against the permanent closure of the lower wharf in Pest, because according to experts, its permanent closure could further worsen car traffic in Budapest.
Accessing certain parts of the capital by car is still a serious difficulty for businesses operating or providing services in the given area - they wrote, noting that the vehicle is essential for some residential service providers - such as mechanics, construction contractors, retail goods suppliers - to deliver their work tools or goods to their destination.
After the online consultation, the BKIK intends to discuss the experiences with the capital's management, the announcement reads.
Mayor Gergely Karácsony announced on April 13 that Pest's lower quay south of the Chain Bridge will be completely car-free. In response to this, the Magyar Autóklub announced that it rejects the final closure of the section of Pest's lower quay between Lánchíd and Erzsébet híd, used as a north-south traffic corridor.
