Last year, the number of car sales in Slovenia fell to a twenty-year low due to the lack of new cars, the Slovenian Automobile Association (AMZS) announced, referring to data from the Chamber of Commerce.
By the end of December, 46,339 passenger cars were put on the market in Slovenia, 14.2 percent less than a year earlier. In the case of vans, the decrease was 26 percent, they wrote.
According to AMZS, the decrease in the supply of new cars and the drop in imports of used cars resulted in higher prices and long delivery times.
Due to the war in Ukraine, car manufacturing companies had significant problems with the procurement of car parts, especially semiconductors, but also other parts. And this affected the delivery times of new cars, which were extremely long, especially for certain models. Furthermore, many customers did not get the car they wanted, they pointed out.
They added: despite this, car dealers ended the year with above-average results last year. The reason for this was that the price of new cars rose due to higher production costs, but Slovenian car distributors and car dealers offered lower discounts, they explained.
AMZS also noticed another trend last fall: the traffic in car dealerships selling used cars also decreased, because "potential buyers no longer want to accept such high prices for used cars," they emphasized.
In Slovenia last year, a decline was also recorded in the volume of sales of cars on the foreign market.
