The Budapest Transport Center (BKK) and the Budapest Transport Company (BKV) have joined the "1.5 m front-end" campaign for the safety of cycling.
Buses with popular stickers will help keep the safe overtaking distance in the capital, as well as warning signs at stops. Within the framework of the campaign, warning signs are placed at 20 stops and 13 buses are stickered.
The Traffic Sign Modification Package to be presented to the National Assembly also includes the provision of a 1.5 m overtaking distance instead of the current “proper side spacing” definition.
According to Aaron Halász, spokesman for the Hungarian Bicycle Club, 70 per cent of the Hungarian population regularly or occasionally ride a bicycle, which means that the campaign involves masses.
