A six-member international consortium is developing and distributing a standard infrastructure for refueling hydrogen powered trucks. There are two competing car manufacturers in the team.
Hydrogen-powered cars, even if there are few in the world, can be refueled according to a uniform norm wherever we go. However, this is not true for fuel cell trucks - obviously, there are fewer of them than cars.
But since Toyota in California is a semi-trailer truck, and in Japan it offers a regular bus with FCEV technology, it's time to create a new standard - exactly what Toyota, Hyundai, Nikola Motor, Air Liquide, Nel Hydrogen and Shell are working on.
The spread of the Sora Bus and Project Portal Freight Port Transport Network depends on whether the global standard is established: the systems used for passenger cars take too long to recharge the tank of heavy vehicles, or because of the relatively low pressure, a large tank needs to be installed on these vehicles - this would change the new norm.
