In 2017, only a facelift was given to the uncertain future model, but now Toyota has confirmed that GT86's history is not over yet.
In 2012, the joint development of Toyota and Subaru, the 2 + 2-seat GT86 (or Subaru BRZ) was released. The brand started off with a sporty return at that time, joining the VEC (WEC) field and later the Rally World Championship.
Japanese street cars were also made in this spirit, and the features of most models were made more sporty. In 2017, the GT86 went through wrinkling, but a new model wasn't released while the legendary Supra was lifted by BMW.
Since the GT86 is already on the brink of the runway, the future of a sports car with a really great driving experience has been questioned. But recently, Toyota's North American spokesman, Nancy Hubbell, said the GT86 would "stay alive in that way or that." As Tojoda Akio, the president of the brand, said at the launch of the Supra 2020, "Toyota wants to build exciting vehicles and sports cars. GT86 has long been a member of the Toyota model family and is expected to remain so. ”
It is not yet clear what this means, but it is certainly a source of confidence. In a scenario, it is possible that Toyota will once again call the GT86 a torch carrier, and the second generation coupe would be Toyota's first hybrid sports car.
