The Yaris Cross, based on the TNGA-B floorboard and an urban crossover embedded under the Toyota C-HR, makes its debut with a fourth-generation hybrid powertrain.
This is the same unit that will be installed in the Yaris, but Toyota hasn’t talked about the details so far: the 1.5-liter, three-cylinder engine, redesigned from hybrid systems in larger models, uses plenty of fuel-saving solutions, from Atkinson-cycle valve control to less internal friction. Thermal efficiency - for car engines - excellent: 40%.
With a combined powertrain output of 116 horsepower, the developers reportedly sought to keep the system particularly vivid in the lower speed range. Average CO2 emissions remain below 90 g / km, at least for the front-wheel drive version.
Yes, the Yaris Cross will also be available in an all-wheel-drive version, with an electric rear-wheel drive that only operates at start-up and acceleration, and assists the drive in the event of a loss of traction. The AWD model is slightly less economical, sending up to 100 grams of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere every kilometer. If we order the largest 18-inch (!) Wheels, the value is expected to be noticeably higher.
